Local Golf in Southern Massachusetts

"unplayable"This has been the story here for about a month...no joke. We have only had 3 rain free days since the end of May. Hopefully your area of the country is better than this.On July 4th, DW Fields will host The George Aspacher Memorial, a 2-man best ball tournament which is know as the warm up for Brockton's first major of the year, the city Four Ball. The Four Ball is open to local players with a 9.0 or less handicap. It is a 3 day tournament that starts at DW Golf course on Friday July 17th. The Field will be cut down to around 50 teams and sent to Brockton Country Club on Saturday. Once again the field is cut and the final round will be played at Thorney Lee County Club. The John Pinetti Memorial will be played at DW Fields on Sunday July 26th. The Pinetti is a 2-person scramble where 8 tee shots are required per player. The tournament has an "A" and "B" flight and is open to anyone with a GHIN card.

The Annual John Pinetti Memorial finished in a playoff today with the team of Clark/Knox edging out Bellew/Orthman. The two teams decided before the playoff to split the 1st and second prize cash of $3,000. There was twenty 2-man teams in the tourney and their combined handicap could not be less than 14. This tournament was a scramble format and each player had to use 8 tee shots. Needless to say there is a lot of strategy involved in this format. On Sunday October 18th the annual Fall Classic also played at DW Fields will take place with the same format. The fall classic is open to any team that has a valid GHIN handicap.
