Potter takes early lead in the Winter Series Championship

The final event of the Hooters Winter Pro Tour kicked off today in Orlando, Fl at the 6978 yard, par 72 course of Rio Pinar CC and Ted Potter (-6) of Silver Springs,Fl carded a bogey free round of 66(-6) today to take the early lead. Three golfers are nipping at Potter’s heals just one shot back including last weeks winner and currently 4th on the money list, Ryan Gildersleeve (-5) who also had a bogey free round. Tied with Ryan is sixth place Travis Hampshire (-5) who also carded a 67 after making 8 birdies, a bogey and a double bogey. Jhared Hack(-5) was one of 5 players who made an eagle 3 on the 508 yard, par 5 first hole today and is tied for 2nd with Hampshire and Gildersleeve.
Matt Parziale (+3)is one of eight New Englanders entered in this weeks event and struggled right out of the gate. Matt started on the 569 yard par 5, 10th hole on the black course with a triple bogey 8. Parziale went on to make six straight pars before a bogey on 17 leaving himself 3 over at the turn. Matt’s luck got worse before it got better as he made a double bogey on 2 before settling down and running off 3 birdies on his last four holes to finish his day at 75. Other New England golfer scores are Michael Welch (-1), Jesse Smith (-1), Donny Troy III (E), Jon Curran (E), Jim Renner (+2), George Zolotas (+7) and John Elliot who withdrew.
Money list contender, Michael Thompson shot even par today and is just $1166 behind leader, Joe Affrunti who is not entered in this weeks event. Other results from the top ten in the standings are Vargas (-3), Knox(-2), Jones(+3), and Benson (-3).
