Gildersleeve takes Diamondback, Parziale gets top 20 finish
-
Ryan Gildersleeve (-15) of Clearwater,FL captured victory at Diamondback GC today as he finished with a 2-under 70 in the final round of this weeks Hooters Pro Tour event. Gildersleeve had a 3 shot lead going into today’s round after carding 66-65 in the first two rounds as Ryan was able to hold off Phillip Mollica (-14) who carded a 66, giving him the $12,000 plus prize, moving himself into 4th on the money list.Michael Thompson(-7) made an ace on the par 3, 17th hole in yesterdays round as he threw down a 6-under 66 but was unable to maintain 4th place after carding a 74 today. With Thompson’s recent success, he has managed to tighten the gap between himself and Joe Affrunti who did not play in this weeks event. Travis Hampshire was today’s biggest mover, jumping from 32nd to 8th place after carding a 66 today. The winner of a weeks ago has moved into the 6th slot on the money list. Jim Renner fell from 4th to 9th after missing this weeks cut. Rob Oppenheim who did not play this week and fell down to the 12th spot. Michael Welch (-5) cashed today and stays in the top 20 at 18th.
Matt Parziale(-6) has missed the last five cuts after he had cashed in his first two events on the Hooters Winter Tour. Matt got himself back on track this week with a top 20 finish. Parziale shot 68 in round one, 69 in round two and owned the back 9 as he carded 31 (4 birdies and an eagle) on Tuesday and a 32 (5 birdies on Wednesday). Today’s 73(+1) was a different story for Matt as he stumbled down the stretch making bogey on 3 of his last four holes. Although that hiccup may have likely knocked Matt out of the top 10 this week, finally breaking the slump is the positive he should work off of going into next week.
Next weeks event is The Bridgestone Winter Series Championship: Rio Pinar Country Club, Orlando, Florida on January 26 – 28, 2010
