Stop three of The Hooters Pro Tour lands in Tavares, Florida at the Deer Island CC. The top 10 members at season’s end will earn full exempt status for the 2010 Hooters Pro Series with their membership fee waived. Joe Affrunti after his 2nd place finish a week ago is now leading the winter tour but will not be playing this week at Deer Island CC.

Missing the cut last week apparently motivated  Jim Renner to come out firing in the first round today. Renner shot off 8 birdies today including the hat trick on 11,12 and 13. Jim then went on to birdie 16 and 18 but did have one blemish on 17 with a bogey. His 65(-7) is good enough for the top spot after day one, two shots ahead of Rodney Butcher.

Last weeks winner Garrett Jones put himself 2nd on the money list after taking $12,274 for his victory. Today Jones shot a 71(-1), six shots off the pace. Michael Welch of Quincy, Ma coming off a strong showing last week remains steady shooting a -2, 70 today putting him tied for 20th. Rob Oppenheim of Andover, Ma finished tied for 32nd at -1. Matt Parzialle made 3 bogeys and a birdie for a 74 (+2)today, putting him tied for 66th. Matt has made the cut in every pro event he has played so far.

The field of 128 will be cut to 40 plus ties after tomorrow’s round at Deer Island CC in Tavares, Florida
