Rule 33-8. Local Rules

I know it’s been a while since my last article and I apologize since my schedule has been very crazy of late. For the most part I have been following our local talent on the Hooters Tour and today I am going to break away from that to have my first official bitch session of the 2010 season ( I know, I’m late huh?). For those of you that are not privileged to golf in [more...]

Rounds played under

Up here in the Northeast, we are not so lucky when it comes to golfing in nice conditions year round. To compensate for frozen grounds, wet conditions, leaves all over the place and just plain old crappy weather, we have what is called winter rules. What are winter rules? Basically you get a preferred lie everywhere on the golf course with no penalty but does this mean you can hockey puck the ball around till [more...]

My biggest pet peeves of golf

A little consideration goes a long way on a golf course I figured this would be a fun article to write but I must warn you, although I mean no disrespect to anybody what so ever, this will probably still offend a few of you so if you can’t take constructive criticism with a little bit of sarcasm, I suggest that if you are reading this on line, click the little “x” on the top [more...]

**Reminder from the MGA**

As the calendar gets closer to flipping to November and fall slowly morphs into winter, the official golf season in many parts of the United States is going into hibernation. That means for many golfers posting scores for handicap purposes will no longer be permitted, unless the golfer is playing in a region with a year-round active season. Here in Massachusetts, the end of the season is set for November 10 which means that rounds [more...]

From the MGA on winter score postings

There has always been some controversy on when you are supposed to post scores played in the off season. I am here to clarify what you should and should not be posting. Naturally the answers you have probably gotten in the past varied depending on how it favored the source you received it from. There has been some belief that if the course is open year round (i.e courses on the cape) that you are [more...]

When you are in the beach, rake the bunker

Golf is supposed to be a relaxing sport, a day away from the realities of life, work , home etc. That doesn’t mean that you do not have to work while playing golf and I am not talking about grinding shots out and sweating those 2 foot putts. What I am talking about is your responsibilities as a golfer to be courteous to the other golfers and  do a little clean up on the course. [more...]

What are your greens on the Stimp Meter.....a what?

When most average golfers are referring to the speed of the putting greens, terms they often use  would be fast or slow. Other critical golfers may use terms like “putting on Velcro” or “it’s like putting on concrete” and some will say they are great or just terrible. But when you get to the pro level and lets say the “wanna be” pros…. fast, slow, Velcro, concrete, good, bad, terrible etc.  are not the terms [more...]

Rule 27-2 Provisional Ball

Picture this. You are on the tee and hit a bomb but uh-oh , the ball tails at the end putting you on the edge of the out of bounds stake. Just in case your ball is out, you hit a provisional from the tee and dump it about 150 yards. Now, it’s 95 degrees outside and you are walking (cheapskate) mumbling to your invisible caddie on how you stink. Because your pissed and it’s [more...]

Match Play at the US Amateur to begin Wednesday

319 players began this week with 2 days of grinding at the US Amateur. They were all  looking for every stroke they could get and hoping they would be one of the lucky ones to be in the 64 player field that is now set to begin match play on Wednesday. Unfortunately with only 64 players advancing, this meant  it would be the end of the road for the remaining  255 disappointed players. One of [more...]

Handicap Manual rule 4-3. Equitable Stroke Control

Recently I have been approached quite a bit about players not properly adjusting their scorecards. After asking around and taking surveys, I was amazed of the amount of golfers that do not know the proper ruling. Everybody seems to have their own interpretation of adjusting scores and surprisingly it always favors the particular golfer I would ask….go figure. Beware of the golfer that has a 10 handicap, they like being where they are unless they [more...]
