319 players began this week with 2 days of grinding at the US Amateur. They were all looking for every stroke they could get and hoping they would be one of the lucky ones to be in the 64 player field that is now set to begin match play on Wednesday. 312 amateur golfers from all over the country including Brockton Country Club’s Mike Calef will be competing to become the 2009 US Amateur champion. The Championship begins with 36 holes of stroke play at Southern Hills CC (par 70) and Cedar Ridge CC (par 71) in Tulsa, OK. The field will then be cut to the low 64 scores after Tuesday’s round. Maplegate CC-Belingham Ma. Coming off his third place finish in the Brockton 4-Ball, Mike Calef had little time to rest as he had to prepare for the sectional qualifying of the US Amateur.
